School Profile

Guinsangaan Elementary School is one of the educational institutions located in Barangay Diwan, Dipolog City, within the South District of the Dipolog City Division. Positioned approximately 26 kilometers from the city proper, the school is situated in a remote area. To reach it, one must travel through Sinuyak, Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte, then cross the Lubungan River via bamboo raft. From there, the journey continues on foot or by habal-habal to Purok 4-Manga in Sitio Guinsangaan, followed by a 30-minute walk to the school.

An alternative route is available via Cogon, Dipolog City. From the Dipolog City Bus Terminal, travelers can take a Rural Transit bus to Cogon, then hire a habal-habal to Purok Manga of Sitio Guinsangaan, and proceed with a 30-minute walk to the school.

Despite its remote location, the school caters to  students for the school year 2022-2023. These learners primarily come from Sitio Guinsangaan, with some hailing from Sitio Cayasan and Barangay Luyuran in Katipunan, Zamboanga del Norte. For the past three years, the school has been fortunate to remain free from crimes and other human-induced threats.

Facilities and Resources

Guinsangaan Elementary School is a complete public elementary institution with six classrooms, two of which are shared by Kindergraten , Grade 1, Grade 3 and mini library. It has two comfort rooms with separate doors for males and females; however, these are non-functional due to clogged toilets bowls. Functional restrooms are available only in the principal’s office and a newly constructed building.

The school has an outdoor stage and a computer/ICT classroom located in the principal’s office, equipped with six computer units provided by the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP). Unfortunately, none of these units are currently functional. Additionally, despite the school’s efforts to secure internet connectivity last year, no service provider has approved their application due to the area’s weak signal.

Teaching Force

The school is staffed by six dedicated and competent permanent teachers, comprising two Teacher III and four Teacher I personnel. These educators consistently demonstrate their commitment to delivering quality education to the learners.

Health and Sanitation Programs

Guinsangaan Elementary School emphasizes health as a critical factor in effective learning and has implemented the following initiatives:

  • Wash In Schools (WINS): Handwashing stands have been provided, though the school lacks an adequate water supply.
  • Deworming and Vaccination: These activities are conducted in compliance with Department of Education mandates.
  • Dental Check-ups: The Dipolog City Dental Chapter offers dental services during National Dental Health Month, benefiting both pupils and teachers.
  • Gulayan sa Paaralan: The school maintains a vegetable garden to promote nutritional health among students. This initiative has ensured that all learners are within the normal nutritional status range, eliminating the need for the School-Based Feeding Program. Parents actively support the garden’s maintenance.

Stakeholder Support and Funding

The school is fortunate to have strong support from its stakeholders. The Barangay Council occasionally donates goods for feeding programs, while the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) actively participates in school activities. During a recent meeting, the PTA President emphasized the importance of parental cooperation to enhance school programs and improve outcomes for their children.

The school’s Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) fund serves as its primary financial resource for implementing programs and projects. Additional funds are generated through PTA contributions, donations, and support from other stakeholders
